How to pick a wood band saw
This is not a table saw. A table saw is for straight rips and sheet goods. A band saw is for curves, resaw, and cutting a bowl blank. Edge profiles after the cut are a router. Square holes on the same bench are a drill press.
Bench vs 14-inch floor. 9 in benchtops (BA3959, SKIL) bolt to a bench and stay around 40 lb. 10 in JWB-10 can live on the included stand. 14 in machines (BA1487, BA1411, JWBS-14CS) need floor space and a helper.
Throat and resaw. Throat is how far the blade sits from the column — a 9 in saw reaches about 9 in to the right of the blade. Resaw / cutting height is how thick a board you can stand on edge. 3-1/2 in (9 in benches) is boxes and curves. 6 in (BA1411, JWBS-14CS) is typical 14 in. 8.85 in (BA1487) is the tall budget 14 in on this list.
Blade length is not interchangeable. 59-1/2 in (9 in WEN / SKIL), 67-1/2 in (JWB-10), 93-1/2 in (BA1411 / JWBS-14CS), 100-3/4 in (BA1487). Buy the length on the carton.
