Best Bench Grinders 2026

Updated October 2026

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. See affiliate disclosure.

A bench grinder is a bolted-down shop motor with two wheels. Deburr a cut, dress a chisel, knock rust off a bolt, reshape a lawnmower blade. It is not an angle grinder. A 4-1/2-inch handheld is a different aisle — rust, tile, and welds you walk to. This page is the bench. We match manufacturer specs and box contents to the Amazon listings we link. We print a street price only where we checked it on a stated date; otherwise check current price and seller on Amazon.

This is not a shop test. Milwaukee has no current US bench grinder that we link on Home Depot or milwaukeetool.com. Milwaukee grinders in that search are 4-1/2 / 5 / 6-inch angle grinders. We do not send you to an Amazon third-party “Milwaukee bench” listing.

6-inch vs 8-inch, high-speed (~3,450–3,600 RPM) vs slow-speed (1,750 RPM), and bench vs pedestal are not the same buy. Shop the wheel and the RPM before you shop the brand.

About $159 at Amazon.com when we checked Oct 6 (shipped and sold by Amazon.com). Recheck stock at click.

Who it’s for. Deburring, rust, and tool-reshaping on an 8-inch high-speed wheel. Anyone who wanted yellow cast iron instead of the budget WEN 6-inch.

Who it’s not for. Chisel and plane-iron sharpening — that heat is the Rikon 80-805 at 1,750 RPM. A first budget bench — that is the BG4260. Handheld rust and tile — that is an angle grinder.

Specs that matter. 8-inch. 3/4 HP induction. 3,600 RPM. 36- and 60-grit wheels in the carton. Cast-iron base. Model DW758. Amazon listing B0000224J4.

Caveats. Flag stock. Confirm the live title is still DW758 — not DW756 and not a wire-wheel bundle (B08FDMF7MF / B08DY3JRWR / B08DY3PBB5). Skip industrial catalog sibling B00C3HR3EO. 3-year limited / 1-year free service / 90-day satisfaction (DeWalt).

Rikon 80-805 — 8-inch slow-speed, best for sharpening

Rikon: 1/2 HP, 3 amp, 120V 60 Hz, 8 × 1-inch wheels on a 5/8-inch arbor, 60-grit and 120-grit white aluminum oxide, diamond-faced dresser in the carton, cast-iron base, anti-vibration rubber feet, left tool rest grooved for drill bits. Who it’s not for. Fast rust and stock removal — that is the DW758. A budget first bench — that is the BG4260. Anyone shopping Amazon Renewed B08337NDRB. The 80-800VS (variable) and 80-808 (1 HP slow-speed) are real Rikon siblings.

Stretch / adjacent — industrial JET, wire-wheel bundles, pedestal

The JET IBG-8 / 578008 is a 1 HP industrial 8-inch with a 2-1/2-inch dust port. Dealer / stretch only.

DeWalt DW758 + wire-wheel bundles (B08FDMF7MF, B08DY3JRWR, B08DY3PBB5) are real cartons. The page pick is the bare DW758.

A pedestal is a floor stand, not a grinder. JET JPS-2A and the WEN 4288T stand are different SKUs. Do not buy a stand thinking it includes a motor.

This page is not an angle grinder page. Die grinders and cut-off tools are also out.

Buying guide

6-inch vs 8-inch. A 6-inch wheel is the default first bench: smaller, cheaper, 1/2-inch arbor on most WEN / catalog 6-inch units. An 8-inch wheel is more surface speed and more stone. Shop 8-inch if you will grind weekly. Shop 6-inch if you will grind a mower blade twice a year.

High-speed vs slow-speed. High-speed on this page is ~3,450–3,600 RPM (DeWalt, WEN single-speed, JET JBG). Slow-speed is 1,750 RPM (Rikon 80-805, WEN BG4286). Variable is 2,000–3,400 (WEN BG4280 / BG625V). High-speed removes rust. Slow-speed is the published way to keep an edge from bluing. Those are manufacturer reasons, not a shop test.

Bench vs pedestal. Everything here is a bench grinder. A pedestal is a stand you bolt the bench to, or a floor machine. Do not order a stand as the grinder.

Wheel grit. Coarse 36-grit is stock removal. 60-grit is general. 80- and 120-grit are finer / sharpening. The carton wheels are a start. Match replacement wheels to diameter, width, arbor, and max RPM stamped on the blotter.

Arbor. Most 6-inch WEN wheels on this page are 1/2-inch arbor. Most 8-inch DeWalt / Rikon / WEN / JET wheels are 5/8-inch. Confirm before you buy a stone.

This is not an angle grinder. A bench grinder stays on the bench. An angle grinder is handheld. Do not dress a chisel on a 4-1/2-inch flap disc and call it a bench.

Third-party and stock. Check availability on Amazon for the DW756. Craftsman was backordered at tools.com. Do not overpay a third-party Amazon seller.

The other garage tools. Finish prep is an orbital sander. Fasteners that will not break loose are an impact wrench. Handheld cutting and rust are an angle grinder.

FAQ

Which bench grinder should I buy in 2026? Want one 8-inch high-speed: DW758. Shopping on a tight budget: BG4260. Sharpening chisels: Rikon 80-805. 8-inch variable: BG4280. Already decided 6-inch DeWalt: DW756. Slow-speed under Rikon money: BG4286. Shop 1 HP: JET JBG-8A.

6-inch or 8-inch? 6-inch for occasional home-shop work and a 1/2-inch arbor. 8-inch for weekly grinding and a 5/8-inch arbor. Do not buy 8-inch because a roundup said “pro” if you will use it four times a year.

Slow-speed or high-speed? High-speed (~3,450–3,600 RPM) for rust, weld blend, and fast removal. Slow-speed (1,750 RPM) for edges you cannot afford to overheat. Variable (2,000–3,400) sits in the middle. Shop the job, not the brand.

Bench or pedestal? Bench. A pedestal is a stand. This page does not sell a floor machine.

Is a bench grinder the same as an angle grinder? No. Cross-link: Best Angle Grinders. A bench grinder is two wheels on a motor you bolt down. An angle grinder is a handheld disc.

Should I buy Milwaukee? Not for a bench. Milwaukee has no current US bench grinder that we link. Their grinders at Home Depot are angle grinders. We are not sending you to a gray-market “Milwaukee bench” listing.

What grit wheels come in the box? DeWalt DW758 / DW756: 36 and 60. WEN BG4260 / BG4276: 36 and 60. WEN BG4280 / BG625V: 36 and 80. Rikon 80-805 and WEN BG4286: 60 and 120. JET JBG-8A: 36 and 60. Confirm the live carton.
