Best Cordless Air Compressors 2026

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. See affiliate disclosure.

A cordless air compressor on this page is a battery-powered tank — 1 to 2.5 gallons — that stores air for a hose and a finish or brad nailer. It is not a handheld tire inflator. It is not a 120V pancake compressor. If you landed here looking for a glove-box pump or a 6-gallon plug-in, leave this page and open those.

We match manufacturer specs and kit contents to the Amazon listings we link. Prices move, so this page does not print street prices; check current price and seller on Amazon before you buy.

This is not a shop test. Milwaukee is a Home Depot exclusive in the US. We do not send you to an Amazon third-party listing for that line. SKIL does not sell a battery tank compressor that we link — their PWR CORE 20 unit is an inflator, and it lives on the tire-inflator page.

Need a garage pancake instead? Start with Best Air Compressors or Best Air Compressors Under $200. Quiet corded: Best Quiet Air Compressors. Platform question: DeWalt vs Milwaukee vs Ryobi.

Quick verdict

Best overall 20V tank: DeWalt DCC2520B — 20V MAX / FLEXVOLT Advantage, 2.5 gal, 1.0 SCFM @ 90 PSI, 140 PSI, tool only. Check current price and seller on Amazon. Check availability on Amazon

Best 60V kit / more CFM: DeWalt DCC2560T1 — 60V FLEXVOLT kit (pack + charger in the carton), 2.5 gal, 1.2 SCFM @ 90 PSI. Do not buy this thinking it eats a 20V-only pack. Check availability on Amazon

Already on ONE+: Ryobi P739 — 18V, 1 gal, 0.5 CFM @ 90 PSI, tool only. The Amazon listing showed an off-brand ONEAND product on Sep 30, so we do not link it; Ryobi lists $169. Smallest tank and lowest CFM on this page. No Amazon link: the listing now shows an off-brand ONEAND product (Sep 30)

Already on V20: Craftsman CMCC2520B — V20, 2.5 gal, 1.0 SCFM @ 90 PSI, tool only. No Amazon link: the Amazon page is gone (Sep 30)

The DCC2520T1 kit (same 20V body plus a FLEXVOLT 6.0Ah and charger, ASIN B0B4BGTLW1) is a stretch over the tool-only. SKIL has no tank compressor.

DeWalt DCC2520B — best overall 20V tank

Check availability on Amazon

If you want one cordless tank compressor and you already live in yellow, this is the current DeWalt 20V body. 2.5-gallon steel tank, roll cage, oil-free brushless pump, OneTurn regulator. Tool only — no pack, no charger.

DeWalt rates it 1.0 SCFM @ 90 PSI, 140 PSI max, 80 dBA, 21.5 lb. FlexVolt Advantage: it runs 20V MAX packs and 20V/60V FLEXVOLT packs. DeWalt’s published nail claim is over 850 nails per charge on a 6Ah pack. Those are published numbers, not a test from us.

Check current price and seller on Amazon. Confirm the live title is still DCC2520B tool-only. Do not use older ASIN B001DTD0H2; that listing is not the current DCC2520B.

Who it’s for. Already on 20V MAX or FLEXVOLT and you want a real tank for trim, brad, and a hose — not a tire inflator. Jobsite or trailer work where a 120V pancake is not practical.

Who it’s not for. Starting from zero with no packs — a tool-only body plus a 20V or FlexVolt pack and charger is not a first compressor. That job is still a 6-gallon pancake. Already on ONE+, V20, XGT, or M18? Stay there. Anyone who needed 2.6 CFM for framing — these battery tanks are 0.5–1.2 CFM.

Specs that matter. 20V MAX / FLEXVOLT Advantage. 2.5 gal. 1.0 SCFM @ 90 PSI. 140 PSI max. 80 dBA. 21.5 lb. Oil-free brushless. Tool only. Model DCC2520B. Amazon listing B0BYJS1VNW.

Caveats. Confirm new vs renewed. 1.0 CFM @ 90 is finish / brad, not framing, not a 1/2-inch impact, not paint. Drain the tank. 3-year limited warranty on the DeWalt tool.

DeWalt DCC2560T1 — 60V kit, more CFM

Check availability on Amazon

This is the 60V FLEXVOLT tank, not a 20V-only body. Carton is a kit: compressor + DCB606 pack + fast charger. 2.5-gallon roll cage, oil-free brushless.

DeWalt rates it 1.2 SCFM @ 90 PSI (ISO 1217), 1.5 SCFM @ 40 PSI, 135 PSI max, 79 dBA, 21.5 lb, up to 1,220 nails per charge. That is 0.2 CFM more than the DCC2520B at 90 PSI, and you do not have to buy a pack separately.

Check current price and seller on Amazon.

Who it’s for. Already on FLEXVOLT, or starting from zero in yellow and you want the higher-CFM DeWalt with a pack in the box.

Who it’s not for. 20V-only buyers who thought this eats a DCB205. It does not. Anyone who already owns FlexVolt packs — buy the DCC2520B tool-only and skip paying for another pack. Anyone who needed a quiet 68 dB unit (Makita / Milwaukee). Anyone who needed a pancake.

Specs that matter. 60V FLEXVOLT kit. 2.5 gal. 1.2 SCFM @ 90 PSI. 135 PSI max. 79 dBA. Pack + charger included. Model DCC2560T1. Amazon listing B0746SBGXS.

Caveats. Confirm the title is still DCC2560T1 kit, not a tool-only clone. 1.2 CFM is still not a 6-gallon pancake. Drain the tank.

Ryobi P739 — already on ONE+

No Amazon link: the listing now shows an off-brand ONEAND product (Sep 30)

Current 18V ONE+ tank. One-gallon horizontal tank, oil-free, universal push-to-connect coupler. Tool only. Cordless only — no 12V or 120V cord.

Home Depot / Ryobi rate it 0.5 CFM @ 90 PSI, 120 PSI max. About 14 lb. Ryobi copy: roadside inflation or pneumatic finish nailers. That 0.5 CFM is half the DeWalt 20V tank. Treat it as a small ONE+ tank, not a substitute for the 2.5-gallon yellow or red units.

The Amazon listings for this model (B0868WV5DM, B07MWB5XMF) showed off-brand “ONEAND” titles, so we are not linking them. Ryobi.com lists $169.

Who it’s for. Already on ONE+ and you want a real (small) tank instead of the PCL031B inflator.

Who it’s not for. Starting from zero — you still need a ONE+ pack and charger, and 0.5 CFM @ 90 will not frame. Anyone who needed 1.0+ CFM. Anyone who only needed a handheld inflator — that is cheaper and already on the tire-inflator page.

Specs that matter. 18V ONE+. 1 gal. 0.5 CFM @ 90 PSI. 120 PSI max. Tool only. Model P739. No Amazon link (the listing shows an off-brand ONEAND product).

Caveats. Buy it from Home Depot or Ryobi: on Sep 30 the Amazon listing (B0868WV5DM) showed an off-brand ONEAND product from a third-party seller. Smallest reserve on this page. Drain the tank.

No Amazon link: the listing now shows an off-brand ONEAND product (Sep 30)

Craftsman CMCC2520B — already on V20

No Amazon link: the Amazon page is gone (Sep 30)

V20 2.5-gallon brushless tank, oil-free. Same air class as the DeWalt DCC2520B: 1.0 SCFM @ 90 PSI, 1.3 SCFM @ 40 PSI. Max 125 PSI — 15 PSI under the DeWalt 20V. Tool only. Not DeWalt 20V MAX — V20 packs only.

Craftsman publishes up to 700 nails per charge on a CMCB204 with an 18ga brad nailer. Catalog weight 19.4 lb tool / 26.8 lb boxed, depending on the sheet.

The CMCC2520M1 kit (4.0Ah + charger) is a different SKU.

Who it’s for. Already on V20 and you want a 2.5-gallon tank that eats those packs.

Who it’s not for. Already on 20V MAX — buy the DCC2520B, not a second charger family. Anyone who opened the CMCE520B inflator tab by mistake. Anyone who wants an Amazon link; this page has none for it.

Specs that matter. V20. 2.5 gal. 1.0 SCFM @ 90 PSI. 125 PSI max. Oil-free brushless. Tool only. Model CMCC2520B. The Amazon page we linked (B0CPTCQXVC) now returns Page Not Found.

Caveats. Confirm the title is still CMCC2520B, not the M1 kit and not the CMCE520B / CMCE521B inflator. Drain the tank. 3-year limited warranty on the Craftsman tool.

No Amazon link: the Amazon page is gone (Sep 30)

Makita AC001GZ — already on 40V XGT, quiet Amazon pick

Check availability on Amazon

40V max XGT Quiet Series tank. Two-gallon, oil-free brushless, 1.2 CFM @ 90 PSI, 135 PSI max, 68 dB. About 20.7 lb without a pack. Tool only. This is not 18V LXT — it does not eat a BL1850. Makita’s 18V inflators (DMP180 / DMP181) are a different machine and live on the tire-inflator page.

Makita: up to 700 finish nails on a 4.0Ah XGT; up to 1,400 on an 8.0Ah. Same 1.2 CFM class as the Milwaukee 2840-20 and the DeWalt 60V, quieter than the DeWalt 20V / 60V (79–80 dBA).

Check current price and seller on Amazon. Stretch vs the DeWalt tool-only.

Who it’s for. Already on 40V XGT and you want the quiet cordless tank that eats those packs.

Who it’s not for. 18V LXT-only shops — Makita has no LXT tank compressor that we link. Starting from zero. Anyone who wanted 68 dB on a platform they already own (M18 buyers: Milwaukee at Home Depot). Anyone who needed a corded quiet pancake.

Specs that matter. 40V XGT. 2 gal. 1.2 CFM @ 90 PSI. 135 PSI max. 68 dB. Tool only. Model AC001GZ. Amazon listing B0BTRH5WVJ.

Caveats. Confirm the title is still AC001GZ, not MAC100Q / MAC210Q corded Quiet Series and not a DMP180 inflator. Stretch. Drain the tank.

Milwaukee 2840-20 — Home Depot exclusive, not an Amazon buy

Check the price at Home Depot for the M18 FUEL 2 Gallon Compact Quiet Compressor, tool only. Confirm in the store or on HD’s page.

Milwaukee rates it 1.2 SCFM @ 90 PSI, 1.7 SCFM @ 40 PSI (operator manual 58-14-0208), 135 PSI max, 68 dB(A), 31.2 lb, stackable low-profile tank. Oil-free POWERSTATE brushless. Milwaukee: up to 1,600 18ga brads per charge on HO XC8.0. Kits with M18 packs exist at HD. We are not linking those as Amazon.

Who it’s for. Already on M18 and you can pick it up at Home Depot. This is the quiet cordless tank on red.

Who it’s not for. Anyone we would send to Amazon. Marketplace copies show up. They are not first-party stock of a Home Depot exclusive. We are not linking those.

Caveats. Confirm the Home Depot price. Heavier than the DeWalt / Makita tanks (31.2 lb). Milwaukee is the M18 benchmark on this page, not an Amazon button.

Stretch — DCC2520T1 kit, not the default buy

Same DCC2520 body as the best-overall pick, plus a FLEXVOLT 6.0Ah pack and charger. Amazon catalog ASIN B0B4BGTLW1 is a stretch over the tool-only. Dewalt.ca marks DCC2520T1 discontinued; the US HD page was still up. If you already own packs, buy the tool-only. Check availability on Amazon (often third-party) only if you are starting from zero and the live kit is actually cheaper than tool + pack.

Buying guide

This is not a tire inflator and not a pancake. A handheld inflator tops off a Schrader valve at about 0.5 CFM high-pressure and has no tank. A 6-gallon pancake stores 2.6 CFM class air on a wall outlet. This page is the battery tank in the middle: 1–2.5 gallons, 0.5–1.2 CFM @ 90, no cord. Wrong page for framing all afternoon or rusted lug nuts. Inflators: Best Tire Inflator. Pancakes: Best Air Compressors Under $200 and Best Air Compressors.

CFM @ 90 vs tank size. Shop CFM at 90 PSI, not the nail-count on the carton. 0.5 (Ryobi 1-gal) is a small finish / roadside tank. 1.0 (DeWalt 20V, Craftsman V20) is the default cordless trim class. 1.2 (DeWalt 60V, Makita XGT, Milwaukee M18) is the top of this class — still about half a Bostitch pancake. Tank size is reserve: 1 gallon means the pump runs the whole time; 2–2.5 gallons buys a longer burst.

18V / 20V vs 40V / 60V vs M18. DeWalt 20V MAX and Craftsman V20 look similar and do not share packs. Ryobi ONE+ is 18V. Makita XGT is 40V, not 18V LXT. DeWalt DCC2560 is 60V FLEXVOLT only. Milwaukee 2840-20 is M18, Home Depot only. Already own a drill kit? Buy the compressor that eats those batteries. Brand comparison: DeWalt vs Milwaukee vs Ryobi.

20V vs 12V. Nothing on this page is a 12V cigarette pump. Those are inflators. Do not buy a 12V “compressor” expecting a tank or a nailer.

Noise. DeWalt 20V / 60V and the Craftsman sit around 79–80 dBA. Milwaukee and Makita publish 68 dB. None of these is a 56 dB California Air Tools. Quiet corded lives on Best Quiet Air Compressors.

Kit vs tool only. DCC2520B, P739, CMCC2520B, AC001GZ, and Milwaukee 2840-20 are tool only. DCC2560T1 is the one Amazon kit we are ranking. The DCC2520T1 kit is a stretch.

What these will not do. Framing crews, 1/2-inch impacts, HVLP paint, two nailers. Drain the tank after every use — every unit here is oil-free steel or equivalent. SKIL: inflator only, no tank.

Third-party and stock. Check current price and seller on Amazon. Buy Home Depot exclusives at Home Depot, not from third-party Amazon sellers.

FAQ

Which cordless air compressor should I buy in 2026? Already on 20V MAX: DCC2520B. Already on FLEXVOLT or buying a 60V kit: DCC2560T1. Already on ONE+: P739. Already on V20: CMCC2520B. Already on 40V XGT: AC001GZ. Already on M18: Milwaukee 2840-20 at Home Depot. Starting from zero with no packs: a pancake is still the cheaper first compressor.

Is a cordless compressor the same as a tire inflator? No. Inflators are handheld, no tank, ~0.5 CFM high-pressure, cannot run a nailer. Best Tire Inflator covers those. This page is the battery tank.

Can these run a framing nailer? Not as a daily tool. 0.5–1.2 CFM @ 90 is brad / finish / staplers with a pause. Framing wants the 2.6 CFM pancakes.

20V or 18V — does it matter? Voltage is the platform, not a CFM guarantee. The Ryobi 18V tank is 0.5 CFM / 1 gal. The DeWalt 20V tank is 1.0 CFM / 2.5 gal. Buy the platform you already own, then read the CFM.

Should I just buy Milwaukee? If you already own M18, buy the 2840-20 at Home Depot. It is the M18 / 68 dB benchmark, not an Amazon recommendation. We are not sending you to a gray-market listing.

Where is SKIL? SKIL sells the IF5940-00 inflator. No PWR CORE tank compressor that we link. Use the tire-inflator page.

Where did the pancake go? Different machine. Best Air Compressors, Best Air Compressors Under $200, Best Quiet Air Compressors.
