A miter saw is the crosscut-and-trim saw: crown, base, door casing, a 2x on a stop block. Sliding compound is not the same as a chop. 10-inch is not 12-inch. Corded 15-amp is not a 7-1/4 cordless compact. We match manufacturer specs and box contents to the Amazon listings we link. We print a street price only where we checked it on a stated date; otherwise check current price and seller on Amazon.
This is not a shop test. Milwaukee is a Home Depot exclusive in the US. We treat the M18 FUEL 10-inch dual-bevel slider as the HD benchmark. We do not send you to an Amazon third-party listing for it.
This is a miter-saw page, not a circular saw page and not a table-saw page. Shop blade size, sliding vs chop, single vs dual bevel, and the battery you already own before you shop a brand.
Quick verdict
Best overall: DeWalt DWS779 — 12-inch double-bevel sliding compound, 15 amp, 3,800 RPM. The cleaner Amazon 12-inch slider we can match to dewalt.com. No XPS — that is the DWS780. Check price on Amazon
Best budget: Metabo HPT C10FCG2 — 10-inch single-bevel compound chop, 15 amp, 5,000 RPM, about 24 lb. Check current price and seller on Amazon. Not a slider. Not a 2×12. Check price on Amazon
Best cordless kit: Craftsman CMCS714M1 — V20 7-1/4-inch single-bevel slider with a 4.0Ah and charger in the carton. Compact 7-1/4, not a 10- or 12-inch shop saw. Check price on Amazon

Table saws and circular saws are a stretch, not a pick. We list the current C10FCG2, not the older C10FCGS.
DeWalt DWS779 — best overall
If you want one 12-inch dual-bevel slider and you want the cleaner Amazon listing we can match to dewalt.com, this is it. 15 amp, 3,800 RPM, dual horizontal steel rails, cam-lock miter with detent override, stainless detent plate with 10 positive stops, bevels 0–48° left and right (DeWalt). Tall sliding fences for 7-1/2-inch nested crown and 6-3/4-inch base standing vertically. DeWalt rates 2×14 at 90° and 2×10 at 45°. Those capacities are DeWalt’s. Dust collection “over 75%” is also DeWalt’s number, not a test from us. In the carton per DeWalt: saw, carbide blade, blade wrench, dust bag, vertical clamp. Corded. No battery. No XPS LED — that light is the DWS780.
Check current price and seller on Amazon. Some Amazon bullets print a 49° bevel; use DeWalt’s 48°. This is a heavy shop saw, not a 7-1/4 you carry up a ladder.
Who it’s for. Finish carpentry and shop crosscuts that need a 12-inch dual-bevel slider next to an outlet. Anyone who wants the DWS780’s capacity class without paying for XPS.
Who it’s not for. A first job-site cordless — that is the Craftsman kit or the DCS361B if you already own 20V MAX. Anyone who only needed a budget 10-inch chop — that is the Metabo. Anyone who already decided they want the XPS shadow line — that is the DWS780. Milwaukee at Home Depot if you already live in M18.
Specs that matter. 15 amp corded. 12 in. Sliding. Dual bevel 0–48° L/R (DeWalt). 3,800 RPM. 2×14 at 90° / 2×10 at 45°. No XPS. Model DWS779. Amazon listing B01ESCU5WS.
Caveats. Confirm the live title is still DWS779 — not the DWS780, not a stand bundle, not Amazon Renewed. 3-year limited / 1-year service / 90-day (DeWalt).
Metabo HPT C10FCG2 — best budget pick
This is the budget compound we can match to a current Amazon listing. It is a 10-inch chop, not a slider. 15 amp, 5,000 RPM, about 24 lb. Single bevel 0–45° left only. Miter 0–52° left and right with nine detent stops (0 / 15 / 22.5 / 31.6 / 45 L/R). Xact Cut shadow line. Electric brake. Metabo rates a 2×6-class crosscut at 90° (2-5/16 x 5-21/32 or 3-1/2 x 3-31/32). That is not a 2×12 slider. In the carton per Metabo: 40T TCT blade, dust bag, vise, 8 mm hex. 5-year tool-body warranty (Metabo HPT). Replaces the older C10FCGS.
Check current price and seller on Amazon.
Who it’s for. Trim and 2×6-class chops next to an outlet when you do not want slider money or slider footprint.
Who it’s not for. Wide shelf stock, 2×12 crosscuts, or nested crown that needs a slider. Anyone who wanted dual bevel. Anyone who thought “compound” meant “sliding.” Cordless? That is the Craftsman kit or the platform you already own. Need a slider that also cold-cuts mild steel? The Evolution R255SMS+ sliding miter saw runs one multi-material blade at 2,500 RPM.
Specs that matter. 15 amp corded. 10 in. Chop / non-sliding. Single bevel 0–45° L. 5,000 RPM. About 24 lb. Model C10FCG2. Amazon listing B0FBPB1MJ8.
Caveats. Not a slider. Confirm the live title is still C10FCG2, not the older C10FCGS (B07PX44JQM) and not a no-name 12-inch dual-bevel.
Craftsman CMCS714M1 — cordless kit
This is the Amazon cordless kit with a battery in the box. V20 7-1/4-inch single-bevel sliding miter saw, CMCB204 4.0Ah, CMCB104 charger, carbide blade, wrench, clamp, dust bag. 3,800 RPM. Craftsman rates 8 inches of crosscut at 90° and 5-1/2 inches at 45°, plus 3-5/8-inch nested crown and 3-1/2-inch base vertically. Nine miter detents. LED cut line. Craftsman rates up to 585 cuts in 3-1/4-inch MDF baseboard on that 4.0Ah. That cut count is Craftsman’s, not a test from us. Amazon’s catalog tag said “Brushless”; Ace prints Brushless: No. Use Craftsman — we are not calling this brushless.
Check current price and seller on Amazon. This is a compact 7-1/4 slider, not a 10- or 12-inch shop saw.
Who it’s for. Starting from zero on a compact cordless, or already on Craftsman V20 and you want the sliding trim saw with a pack in the carton.
Who it’s not for. Daily 2×12 or 12-inch crown — buy the DWS779 or stay on a 10/12 corded slider. Already on 20V MAX? The DCS361B eats those packs (tool only). Already on ONE+? That is the PBT01B. Already on M18? Milwaukee at Home Depot.
Specs that matter. V20. 7-1/4 in. Sliding. Single bevel. 3,800 RPM. Kit: 4.0Ah + charger. Model CMCS714M1. Amazon listing B07LFPYPCQ.
Caveats. Compact 7-1/4. Confirm the live title is still CMCS714M1 with the 4.0Ah in the box — not a tool-only swap and not a random V20 kit. Ignore the Amazon “Brushless” tag if Craftsman still does not print it. 3-year limited (Craftsman).
DeWalt DCS361B — already on 20V MAX
DeWalt’s current 20V MAX 7-1/4-inch cordless slider we can match to dewalt.com. Integrated cut-line. About 30 lb. 3-5/8-inch nested crown, 3-1/2-inch base vertically, 11 positive miter stops, cam-lock miter. DeWalt rates 183 cuts in 2×4 pine or 275 cuts in 3-1/4 pine baseboard. Those cut counts are DeWalt’s. In the carton: saw, blade, wrench, clamp. Tool only. Battery and charger sold separately. The official US page we opened did not print a bevel-degree range — do not shop this as a dual-bevel 12-inch.
Stay on B00YEWX4SK; B07SJ7B99G is another DCS361B listing.
Who it’s for. Already on 20V MAX or FLEXVOLT and you want the yellow compact slider, not a second charger. Same packs run a circular saw.
Who it’s not for. Starting from zero — a bare 7-1/4 plus a 5.0Ah and charger is a battery purchase. Want a pack in the box? That is the Craftsman CMCS714M1. Want a 12-inch shop saw? That is the DWS779.
Specs that matter. 20V MAX. 7-1/4 in. Sliding. Compact cordless. About 30 lb. Tool only. Model DCS361B. Amazon listing B00YEWX4SK.
Caveats. Tool only. Confirm B00YEWX4SK is still the DCS361B saw-only, not a no-name pack taped on and not Amazon Renewed. 3-year limited (DeWalt).
DeWalt DWS780 — XPS dual-bevel 12-inch
Read our full DeWalt DWS780 review.
The Amazon listing title matches DWS780 with XPS. Check current price and seller on Amazon. Toolguyd recorded a $669 list price in May 2026. Stay on B00540JS7C; B00A08VSH6 is another DWS780 listing.
Who it’s for. The DWS779 buyer who wants the XPS shadow line and will pay the delta.
Who it’s not for. Anyone who only needed the capacity — buy the DWS779. A first cordless. A 10-inch dual-bevel on a tighter budget — that is the SKIL MS6305-00.
Specs that matter. 15 amp corded. 12 in. Sliding. Dual bevel 0–49° L/R. XPS LED. 3,800 RPM. Model DWS780. Amazon listing B00540JS7C.
Caveats. Confirm the live title still says XPS / DWS780, not the DWS779 and not a stand bundle. 3-year limited (DeWalt).
SKIL MS6305-00 — 10-inch dual-bevel slider
The Amazon 10-inch dual-bevel slider we can match to skil.com. 15 amp, 4,800 RPM, LED shadow line. SKIL rates 2×12 at 90° and 2×8 at 45°, miter 50° left and right with 11 positive stops, dual bevel 48° left / 45° right, 4-1/2-inch base vertically, 6-1/4-inch crown nested. Cam miter lock. In the carton per SKIL: saw, left/right extension rods, dust bag, hex key, clamp. 3-year limited (SKIL). This is a 10-inch slider, not a 12-inch.
The Amazon listing title matches MS6305-00. Check current price and seller on Amazon. SKIL.com manufacturer $279.99.
Who it’s for. Dual-bevel sliding capacity without 12-inch DeWalt money, next to an outlet.
Who it’s not for. Anyone who already decided 12-inch. A budget chop — that is the Metabo. Cordless 7-1/4 — Craftsman, DeWalt, or Ryobi.
Specs that matter. 15 amp corded. 10 in. Sliding. Dual bevel 48° L / 45° R. 4,800 RPM. LED shadow. Model MS6305-00. Amazon listing B08J7N3VYW.
Caveats. Confirm B08J7N3VYW is still the MS6305-00, not the compact MS6306-00 7-1/4 and not a no-name 10-inch.
Ryobi PBT01B — already on ONE+
Check availability on Amazon (often third-party)
Ryobi’s current 18V ONE+ 7-1/4-inch sliding compound we can match to ryobitools.com. Single bevel 0–45° left. 3,600 RPM. Ryobi rates a 2×10 crosscut at 90° and 2×6 at 45° miter, 10 miter detents, and up to 800 cuts per charge with a P194 9.0Ah HP pack sold separately. That cut count is Ryobi’s, on a pack that is not in this carton. Tool only. In the carton per Ryobi/Amazon copy: 40T blade, wrench, dust bag, clamp, carry handles. 3-year manufacturer warranty (Ryobi).
Ryobi lists $239. Check current price and seller on Amazon; this listing is often third-party.
Who it’s for. Already on ONE+ and you want the compact slider, not a second charger.
Who it’s not for. Starting from zero on a 9.0Ah HP pack — that pack is not in this carton. Already on 20V MAX or V20? Stay there. A 10-inch HP ONE+ slider exists on Ryobi.com.
Specs that matter. 18V ONE+. 7-1/4 in. Sliding. Single bevel 0–45° L. 3,600 RPM. Tool only. Model PBT01B. Amazon listing B09SNK2SBL.
Caveats. Tool only. Compact 7-1/4. Confirm the live title is still PBT01B, not a 10-inch HP SKU and not Amazon Renewed. Manufacturer $239.
Check availability on Amazon (often third-party)
Makita LS1019L — wall-flush 10-inch dual-bevel
Makita’s 10-inch dual-bevel slider with the two-steel-rail layout that sits flush against a wall. Direct-drive 15 amp, 3,200 RPM, soft start, electric brake, laser. Dual bevel 0–48° left and right. Miter 0–60° left and right. Makita rates 6-5/8-inch nested crown, 5-1/4-inch base vertical, 12-inch crosscut at 90°, and a 4×12 in one pass. Those capacities are Makita’s. About 57.9 lb. In-front bevel lock. Dual dust ports.
Amazon catalog title matches LS1019L saw-only on B08Y6WDQPC. Also at Home Depot (internet #302717166). Check current price and seller on Amazon. Do not use the stand combo B086XZYQDS or the nailer combo B07XH563CT.
Who it’s for. A shop wall you cannot give up to 12-inch rails, and you already decided 10-inch dual-bevel Makita money.
Who it’s not for. Anyone shopping the DWS779 class. A first cordless. A budget chop.
Specs that matter. 15 amp corded. 10 in. Sliding, wall-flush rails. Dual bevel 0–48° L/R. 3,200 RPM. Laser. About 57.9 lb. Model LS1019L. Amazon listing B08Y6WDQPC.
Caveats. Confirm the live listing is still LS1019L saw-only.
Bosch GCM12SD — Axial-Glide 12-inch
Bosch’s 12-inch dual-bevel with an Axial-Glide arm instead of dual steel rails. Official boschtools.com: 15 amp, 4,000 RPM (some listings still print 3,800 — use Bosch), 65 lb, SquareLock fences, miter 52° left / 60° right, bevel 47°/47°, detents at 0 / 15 / 22.5 / 31.6 / 45 / 60 right, bevel stops at 0 / 33.9 / 45 / 47 left and right. Bosch rates 3-1/2 x 13-1/2 at 0°/0°, 6-inch crown on a 45° spring, 5-1/4-inch crown on a 38° spring, 3-7/8-inch base against the fence. Dust collection “up to 90%” with a vac on 2x is Bosch’s claim. In the carton: 60T blade, wrench, toolless clamp, dust bag, vacuum elbow. Electric brake.
Amazon catalog title/model match on B004323NNC. Do not use stand-bundle ASIN B01MF5Z96K.
Who it’s for. A shop that wants 12-inch dual-bevel capacity without rail hangover behind the saw.
Who it’s not for. Anyone who wanted the DWS779. A first cordless. A 10-inch SKIL budget dual-bevel.
Specs that matter. 15 amp corded. 12 in. Axial-Glide. Dual bevel 47°/47°. 4,000 RPM (Bosch). 65 lb. Model GCM12SD. Amazon listing B004323NNC.
Caveats. Confirm B004323NNC is still the saw-only GCM12SD, not the T4B stand combo. Use Bosch’s 4,000 RPM, not stray 3,800 catalog copy.
Milwaukee 2734-20 — pro benchmark, not an Amazon buy
Milwaukee is a Home Depot line in the US. The current M18 FUEL 10-inch dual-bevel sliding compound is the 2734-20 tool-only. Milwaukee rates a POWERSTATE brushless motor at 4,000 RPM, up to 400 cuts per charge on a HIGH DEMAND 9.0 (sold separately), 2×12 at 90°, 2×8 at 45° miter, 2×12 at 45° bevel, 5-1/4-inch nested crown, 5-3/4-inch vertical against the fence, miter 50°/60°, bevel 48°/48°, shadow cut line, cam-lock miter, about 45 lb. Those capacities and the 400-cut number are Milwaukee’s, not a test from us. Tool only. 5-year tool warranty (Milwaukee).
No Amazon link. Marketplace copies of a Home Depot exclusive are not first-party stock.
Who it’s for. Pros, or DIY buyers who already live in M18 and can pick the 10-inch dual-bevel slider up at Home Depot.
Who it’s not for. Anyone we would send to Amazon. A first M18 purchase that still needs a HIGH DEMAND 9.0. Anyone who wanted a budget 10-inch chop.
Caveats. Confirm the Home Depot price in the store or on HD’s page. Not a 12-inch. Not a kit.
Stretch / adjacent — circulars, table saws, older chops, compact 7-1/4 corded
A circular saw rips a sheet and a 2x on horses. A table saw is a rip-and-repeat shop saw. Neither is a miter saw. The older Metabo C10FCGS is a real 10-inch chop — we are sending you to the current C10FCG2. DeWalt DWS713 / DWS715 are real 12-inch chops. Ryobi TSS102L is a real 10-inch slider family with messy Amazon listings. SKIL MS6306-00 is a real compact 7-1/4 corded, a different class from the MS6305-00. Do not buy a circular saw because a miter-saw page mentioned one.
Buying guide
Sliding vs chop. A slider (DWS779, DWS780, MS6305-00, LS1019L, GCM12SD, the 7-1/4 cordless, Milwaukee 2734-20) pulls the blade through wide stock. A chop (C10FCG2) drops in place. “Compound” only means the head bevels. It does not mean the saw slides. If the listing does not say sliding, do not shop it as a 2×12.
10-inch vs 12-inch vs 7-1/4. 12-inch (DWS779, DWS780, GCM12SD) is the shop crown-and-2×14 class. 10-inch dual-bevel (SKIL, Makita, Milwaukee) still does 2×12-class work on the manufacturer pages. 7-1/4 cordless (Craftsman, DCS361B, PBT01B) is a compact trim saw. Do not expect 12-inch nested crown from a 7-1/4.
Single vs dual bevel. Dual bevel (DWS779, DWS780, SKIL, Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee) flips the head both ways so you do not flip the workpiece on compound crown. Single bevel (C10FCG2, Craftsman, Ryobi PBT01B) bevels one side. That is fine for square base and simple miters. It is not the same saw for nested crown.
Corded vs cordless. A 15-amp cord does not care about amp-hours. Buy corded next to a shop outlet. Buy cordless if the trim moves, or if you already paid for the batteries. A 7-1/4 cordless kit from zero is a battery purchase that happens to include a compact slider.
Platform lock-in. DeWalt 20V MAX, Craftsman V20, Ryobi ONE+, and Milwaukee M18 do not share packs. Already own a platform? Buy the compact slider that eats those batteries. Brand comparison: DeWalt vs Milwaukee vs Ryobi.
Kit vs tool only. Only the Craftsman CMCS714M1 on this page is a verified cordless kit with a 4.0Ah and charger. DCS361B, PBT01B, and Milwaukee 2734-20 are tool only. The corded saws include a blade and clamp, not a battery. A cordless kit is not the same checkout as a corded chop.
Shadow line vs laser. DWS780 XPS, SKIL LED shadow, Metabo Xact Cut, Craftsman LED, Milwaukee shadow, Makita laser — different implementations. Shop the listing, not a generic “laser included” bullet on a third-party listing.
Third-party and stock. Check current price and seller on Amazon. Buy Home Depot exclusives at Home Depot, not from third-party Amazon sellers.
The other garage tools. Same-day framing is a circular saw. Curves and sink cutouts are a jigsaw. Demo through studs is a reciprocating saw. Finish prep is a 5-inch random orbital.
FAQ
Which miter saw should I buy in 2026? One 12-inch dual-bevel slider: DWS779. Want XPS on that same class: DWS780. On a budget and you accept a 10-inch chop: C10FCG2. 10-inch dual-bevel slider without DeWalt 12-inch money: SKIL MS6305-00. Cordless kit from zero: CMCS714M1. Already on 20V MAX: DCS361B. Already on ONE+: PBT01B. Wall-flush 10-inch: LS1019L. Axial-Glide 12-inch: GCM12SD. Already on M18: Milwaukee at Home Depot.
Do I need a slider? Yes if you crosscut 2×10 / 2×12 or nested crown. No if you cut 2×4 / 2×6 and simple trim — the Metabo chop is the budget answer that we link. “Compound” on the carton is not the same word as “sliding.”
10-inch or 12-inch? 12-inch if you want the DWS779 / DWS780 / Bosch crown-and-2×14 class. 10-inch dual-bevel (SKIL, Makita, Milwaukee) is the middle. 7-1/4 cordless is compact trim, not a shop 12.
Is a 7-1/4 cordless enough? For base, casing, and punch-list 2x, manufacturer pages say yes. For 12-inch nested crown and 2×14, no. Shop the Craftsman kit, DCS361B, or PBT01B only if you already accepted compact capacity.
Should I just buy Milwaukee? If you already own M18, buy the 2734-20 at Home Depot. It is the 10-inch FUEL dual-bevel benchmark, not an Amazon recommendation. We are not sending you to a gray-market listing.
Miter saw or circular saw or table saw? Adjacent, not a substitute. This page is miter saws. A circular saw rips a 2x and a sheet. A table saw is a rip-and-repeat shop tool. A miter saw crosscuts and compounds against a fence.
